The Luciferian Doctrine is a set of religious beliefs that was alleged to be held predominantly by initiates of Freemasonry who allegedly practice Luciferianism as a religion. According to this set of beliefs, held primarily by those who follow the principles originating from the writings of Léo Taxil, Abel Clarin de la Rive, and some claim, Albert Pike, Lucifer is perceived as the main deity, alongside the traditional Judeo-Christian Adonai, forming a duotheism, or dichotomy, between the two in opposition with one another. The exact origin of this doctrine, pertaining to Freemasonry, has been credited to both Leo Taxil and AC de la Rive, in writing, and proven to be a part of the Taxil hoax.

Luciferian Doctrine: The Luciferian quote

Luciferian Doctrine
It is unknown when the Luciferian quote was first created and where it was first published. However, its origins can be traced back to several sources, most notably AC de la Rive and the Taxil hoax, which reads:
...Yes, Lucifer is God, and unfortunately Adonay is also god. For the eternal law is that there is no light without shade, no beauty without ugliness, no white without black, for the absolute can only exist as two gods; darkness being necessary for light to serve as its foil as the pedestal is necessary to the statue, and the brake to the locomotive....
— Abel Clarin de la Rive, Woman and Child in Universal Freemasonry Although Taxil publicly confessed to the hoax, and AC de la Rive recanted what he wrote, Edith Starr Miller wrote in page 32 of Occult Theocrasy that "Luciferian occultism controls Freemasonry". Albert Pike and other Masonic writers have been accused of writing about Luciferianism, with subtle references appearing in various writings:
We worship a God, but it is the God that one worships without superstition. To you, sovereign Grand Inspectors General, we say, so that you can repeat it to the Brethren of the 32nd, 31st and 30th degrees: the Masonic religion must be, by all of us initiates of the high grades, maintained in the purity of the Luciferian doctrine. If Lucifer were not God, Adonai, the God of the Christians, whose deeds prove his cruelty, perfidy and hatred of man, his barbarism and repulsion of science, if Lucifer were not God, would Adonai and his Priests not slander him? Yes, Lucifer is God.
— Quoting, on p. 156, the fictitious Albert Pike quote, from the book, Is It True What They Say About Freemasonry?, in the section, The Methods of Anti-Masons The day has come when Fellow Craftsman must know and apply their knowledge. The lost key to their grade is the mastery of emotion, which places the energy of the universe at their disposal. Man can only expect to be entrusted with great power by providing his ability to use it constructively and selflessly. When the Mason learns that the key to the warrior on the block is the proper application of the dynamo of living power, he has learned the mystery of his Craft. The seething energies of Lucifer are in his hands, and before he may step onward and upward, he must prove his ability to properly apply energy. He must follow in the footsteps of his father, Tubal-Cain.
— Manly P. Hall, The Lost Keys of Freemasonry, Ch. 4: The Fellow Craft Manly Palmer Hall wrote about the above, in 1923, many years before joining Freemasonry, in 1954. It is sourced from the writings of AC de la Rive.
