Former Mercantile Bank CEO dies
Donald Lasater, longtime CEO of the former Mercantile Bank, died at age 90, the St. Louis Business Journal reports.
Lasater
began working as an errand boy and later went banking. He became
chairman and CEO of St. Louis-based Mercantile Bank at age 44.
Mercantile
Bank once was one of the most prominent banks in the Kansas City
market, and many top area bankers spent parts of their early careers
with the bank.
Mercantile
tried to expand in the 1980s, and announced a merger with Centerre
Bancorp in 1988. However, Centerre ended up teaming with Boatmen’s
Bancshares Inc. and Mercantile eventually became part of U.S. Bank.
